Barefoot Gardener is a not-for-profit volunteer gardening group that began in Polk County, FL and now stretches across Central Florida east, west, north and south to include climate zones 9a, 9b, and a little of 10a.  A network of gardeners, horticulturalists, farmers and ranchers, we are teachers and students professing natural, organic, and holistic practices.

We are a connection point for sharing and selling fresh, seasonal produce, herbs and natural food products. Our emphasis is on permaculture, holistic stewardship, and humane animal husbandry in a healthy and natural ecologic setting. That benefit of these practices reaches across the local region and beyond, to the whole planetary environment.

In 2006 Patti McGauley, life-long Florida gardening enthusiast decided to create a network of like-minded people to promote natural horticultural practices. Serving both individuals and small businesses, her vision was an organization that would offer a treasure trove of gardening knowledge. We keep a regular activity of visiting one another’s gardens and farms, offering classes in gardening and permaculture practices, and remaining in touch through our online discussion forums. This website, our Yahoo discussion forum, and our Facebook group are the principal contact points for communication among members.

We participate in regional conferences highlighting permaculture, natural gardening and all aspects of healthy, sustainable living.
